Not sure exactly how it's related to Mill's discussion, but I think it's worth mentioning. A rigid designator is, as far as I understand, a name attached to a thing that the thing has to have in every possible world. So Barack Obama is a rigid designator of the person, Barack Obama, since there is no possible world in which Barack Obama could not be Barack Obama.
